First snowfall of the season
So, we all know that snow can be a pain and it can get pretty annoying here on Long Island, especially when we get over a foot of it….BUT the first snowfall of the season is always exciting (for me at least) so I decided to write a short post and share some photos.
This year the snow decided to make an early appearance and happen in December. This excited me because I love this time of year to begin with and with Christmas right around the corner it really stirred up the holiday spirit. It wasn’t that much, maybe 3-5 inches, but it was enough to cover everything in a white blanket and turn Long Island into a winter wonderland. Typically we don’t get actual snow until around January, but there has been the rare occasions when it has snowed in December, and I love it! So whenever it snows, my boyfriend and I always try to get out to take a walk and take some photos. In my opinion, the snow just makes every place look so much more beautiful and feel so quiet and calm. Also, to make it even better, this first snowfall decided to happen on a Saturday, so we didn’t have to worry about being stuck at work missing out, yay! We decided to drive over to East Setauket and go to a place called Frank Melville Memorial Park. This park isn’t a secret and is pretty well known. We have been here a handful of times in pretty much every weather and I’d have to say, it is probably one of my favorite spots on Long Island. The only down side is, it’s usually somewhat busy on weekends, but this time we basically had the entire place to ourselves. I guess not everyone was as excited about the snow as we were, but I wasn’t complaining. I’ve honestly never seen this park so empty before and it was nice to be able to enjoy it as just the two of us. It was so quiet you could hear the snowflakes falling.
This place is really beautiful on its own during any time of the year, but with a nice coating of snow it was every bit more magical. If you ever find yourself wandering around East Setauket, I highly recommend visiting…and even more so if there happens to be a fresh blanket of snow.
