July 4th at Old Bethpage Village Restoration

Since the weather was perfect for America’s Birthday it wasn’t hard to plan something fun to do outdoors. We decided to do something a little different this year and head over to the Old Bethpage Village Restoration. This place is super cute and really makes you feel like you just stepped back in time. The village is on 209 acres and is set up like a mid 19th century American town.  They have several different homes, farmhouses and businesses to walk through. All of the buildings are fully staged and equipped with their own tour guide. Each guide is dressed in full period costume and ready to give you all the history about each house/building, which I loved! The buildings were so accurately furnished/staged that it seemed like you just walked right into the life of an American family or business owner in the mid 1800's. It’s interesting to walk through each place and get a closer look into the way people lived during such a different time. I also found it to be really fascinating that almost all of the structures in the village were moved from their original spots along Long Island and brought there to be restored and displayed.

In addition to that they had live music with period correct instruments, folk dancing, a parade and lots of adorable farm animals. If you enjoy history and old architecture I would definitely recommend taking a visit here to check it out.
