My flowery filled birthday weekend

So this past Friday was my birthday and let me just say, it definitely feels weird to be 29 BUT I am trying not to stress over the number and I am feeling that this last year of my twenties will be a good one.  To celebrate my birthday my lovely boyfriend and my mom took me out east to some pretty cool places.  The first stop was Patty’s Berries and Bunches in Mattituck, which is one of my favorite places to stop on the North Fork. It’s a cute little farm stand with tons of fresh flowers that are made up into pretty bouquets, tied up neatly and ready for you to buy.  They also have delicious berries that are grown on site, which you can even walk through and pick your own if you want! Unfortunately it was a little too hot that day to be berry picking so we grabbed some lemonade and a few bouquets of flowers and headed to the next stop, which was Lavender by the Bay!

I have always seen pretty photos from people who have visited this place and was dying to go, and since the English Lavender blooms mid to late July, it seemed to happen just in time for my birthday. This Lavender farm is located in East Marion and is absolutely gorgeous! As soon as we got out of the car all you could smell was the sweet Lavender in the air. The fields of lavender were a lot bigger than I expected them to be and were breathtaking to look at, you definitely feel like you are in a dream. Side note: there are A LOT of bees here and at first I was a little leery to go stepping through them as they buzzed around my skirt but they did not seem to pay any mind to me at all. They were just doing their bee thing and after a minute I was over it and gallivanting through the flowers. Ha-ha! It was way too pretty to be worried about a bee sting anyways! After you walk through the field you can purchase bundles of Lavender that has already been cut and tied for you, each bundle comes with care instructions on how to properly preserve the Lavender as it dries. Every minute of this place was enjoyable with the exception of parking the car. The parking situation was a little tricky as the lot is sort of tiny but we managed to get lucky and grab a spot from someone who was pulling out just as we arrived. Yay! If you are planning on visiting on the weekend during the season when the Lavender is in full bloom, I would suggest going early because it does seem to get a bit crowded.

Our lovely flower filled day came to a nice relaxing end in Greenport Village (which is 4 minutes from Lavender by the Bay) where we had lunch at one of my favorite places, First and South.  We try to always stop there when we are in Greenport, their food is soooo delicious and it just has a great atmosphere. Needless to say my birthday weekend was filled with the people I love the most, beautiful weather, good food and flowers…I mean, what more could a girl ask for? Am I right?
