Fall Festivities on Long Island
One of the best parts about celebrating Autumn on Long Island is pumpkin picking. It’s something I’ve done since I’m a kid and will always keep this tradition going. We have tons of farms on the island and I like to try to go to different ones each year and experience what each one has to offer. This year we chose the Waterdrinker Family Farm in Manorville and it was super cute, I definitely recommend. It wasn’t too busy but it started to fill up as it got later. We got there around 10am which was an hour after they opened. We always try to get to the pumpkin patch as early as possible because they can get pretty busy and then it’s just not fun lol. We did have to pay $8 per person to enter and be able to see everything for their Fall Festival but I think it’s totally worth it.
They had all your beloved pumpkin patch festivities like a corn maze, yummy fall treats, tons of different colored mums, painted wood cut-outs to put your face in for photos, gourds (my fav) and a really nice selection of pumpkins. I was determined to get a huge pumpkin to carve for this year and they had so many good ones which I was really excited about. The corn maze was adorable and had a treasure map for kids (and adults). It was actually wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be to find our way out but it wasn’t too bad and we made it out eventually. lol In addition to having all your usual fall favorites, the Waterdrinker had a pretty nice sized sunflower field which was beautiful and you are able to walk through and pick your own which I thought was cute. The sunflowers were on the shorter side compared to other fields I have been to before and only came up to about my waist but it was still so pretty to walk around in them and nice for photos.
Carving the pumpkins you picked is the best part of getting them and I am always surprised to hear when people tell me they have never carved a pumpkin before…like what!? lol It’s so fun to get creative with the designs and make a jack-0-lantern, it’s definitely something I look forward to each year. I shared some photos below of our carvings for this year that we are very proud of. Halloween is in just a few days and I’m excited to get them out on the porch to show them off. Happy Fall Ya’ll!
