October Things

Ahh yes, it’s finally that time of year again! Autumn is officially upon us and with it comes all those good fall-ish things that we know, love and anticipate all year. Pumpkin flavored everything, apples, bon-fires, Halloween, changing leaves and crisp cool air. I have to admit, as much as my heart loves the summer, the sunshine, the beach, salt water and sand… I will always anticipate falls arrival. There is something exciting about that change in temperature, things seem to start slowing down a bit, it gets darker earlier and everything has an all around more cozy feeling. Am I right? I think we all can agree that it is just a good time of year.

So, what better way to celebrate fall then to go pumpkin picking?!…And with your best friends no less. This past weekend two of my oldest and dearest friends and I decided to take a ride out east a bit and do just that. It ended up being a nice day weather wise which we were all happy about. It wasn’t as cool and crisp as I would of hoped for a fall afternoon but it was acceptable. The first pumpkin patch we went to ended up being completely packed out with families and young children and had a $17 entrance fee, so we decided to pass on that one and drive down the road about 10 minutes in search of one that was more our speed. The place we ended up at was May’s Farm in Wading River. This farm is small but cute, and it had everything you would want for your fall galavanting needs and it was really not uncomfortably busy. The worst thing about heading out east on Long Island to go pumpkin picking in October is the fact that everyone else has the same exact idea, so it can get pretty busy at most places if you don’t go early. But…we lucked out with this particular place and it ended up being exactly the kind of spot we were looking for. It was quiet, calm and cute. Haha. They had fresh apples, various local fruits, veggies, honey, jams, cold apple cider, mums of all colors and of course pumpkins. They also had tons of cute unique Halloween decorations and little oddly shaped gourds which are my favorite and a MUST to bring home every time time I go pumpkin picking. It was a perfect little fall afternoon well spent with two of my favorites girls and really made me look forward to this beautiful season ahead and all the adventures that will come with it.
